KIBLAWAN, DAVAO DEL SUR (PIA) — About 32,000 residents from the province of Davao del Sur are set to benefit from the second wave distribution of 10 kilos of rice under the national government’s rice program initiated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) Head Geraldine Lano, each of the 10 Local Government Units (LGUs) in Davao del Sur has 2,900 beneficiaries, with an additional 3,000 beneficiaries identified from the low-income sector, including TODA (Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association) drivers and the Muslim community.
During the distribution at Barangay Poblacion, Kiblawan, more than 600 beneficiaries received their rice assistance.
Lano explained that the same beneficiaries from the first wave will continue to receive rice in succeeding waves.
“Kung per LGU, naa ta’y 2,900 beneficiaries, unya naa tay add-on nga 3,000, katong na-identify nato sa low-income sector,” she said.
(We have a total of 2,900 beneficiaries per Local Government unit, in addition to the 3,000 beneficiaries from the identified low-income sector.)
She clarified that the program is a national government initiative, with qualified beneficiaries receiving 10 kilograms of quality rice per cycle.
The second wave distribution is targeted to end by August 20, 2026, with the third wave scheduled in October and the fourth wave in November.
Lano said that beneficiaries who missed the first wave will receive two allocations for the second wave.
She also emphasized that the PSWDO does not select beneficiaries directly, as the LGUs provide data from the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).
“Kung wala sila nag base sa CBMS, [nag base sila] didto sa listing nga mu qualify sa program,” she explained, adding that validation is done to avoid double entries or ineligible recipients such as job order employees and teachers.
(If an LGU didn’t base its listing on the CBMS, it based it on the list of those who qualify for the program.)
She further assured the bneficiaries that the rice distributed is in good condition, safe, nutritious, and suitable for consumption. (FRG/PIA Davao)
