Jakarta (ANTARA) – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) stated that Indonesia’s rice production is projected to reach 13.95 million tons from January to April 2025, the highest in the last seven years.

Rice production stood at 13.63 million tons in 2019, 11.52 million tons in 2020, 13.58 million tons in 2021, 13.71 million tons in 2022, 12.98 million tons in 2023, and 11.07 million tons in 2024.

“When compared with production realization in the previous years, the potential for rice production from January to April 2025 is estimated to be the highest in the last seven years,” BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti remarked here on Monday.

Regions with major contributions to domestic rice production are still concentrated in Java Island, with significant outputs from East Java, with 2.71 million tons; Central Java, 2.3 million tons; and West Java, 1.96 million tons.

Beyond Java, the regions with the highest production are South Sulawesi, with 1.08 million tons; South Sumatra, 933 thousand tons; and Lampung, 788 thousand tons.

The BPS head attributed the high domestic rice production to favorable rainfall levels, ranging between medium and high, across Indonesia, thereby boosting the productivity of food crops.

“This condition will support rice farming activities in the period of January to April 2025,” she remarked.

In line with the large rice production, the rice harvest during the same period is also projected to be the highest in the last seven years, with the accumulated harvest from January to April 2025 reaching 24.22 million tons, marking a 26.02 percent year-on-year increase.

As for the farmers’ terms of trade in February 2025, BPS recorded a 0.18 percent decrease compared to the previous month, namely at 123.45, with bird’s eye pepper, shallots, red chilies, and cacao being the commodities contributing to the farmer’s received price index.

Meanwhile, during the same period, agriculture’s terms of trade were recorded at 125.69, reflecting a month-on-month decrease of 0.67 percent.
