Rice prices up slightly, chicken prices down in early Oct

MANILA, Philippines — The average retail price of rice slightly increased while that of chicken decreased in early October, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Regular milled rice had a national average retail price of P40.28 per kilogram (kg) during the first phase from Oct. 1 to 5, 2025. This was higher than its P40.11/kg average radial price in the second phase from Sept. 15 to 17. However, this was lower compared to its P40.31/kg price in early September.
The early October 2025 price of the commodity was also lower compared to its prices in October 2024, which were P50.16/kg and P50.40/kg at the second and first phases of the month, respectively.
Dressed chicken had a P211.40/kg national average retail price in early October. This marks a decline from its average retail prices of P214.49/kg in the second phase of September and P215.22/kg in the first phase of September.
However, the latest data showed that early October 2025 prices were higher than those of the same month of the previous year, which were P203.86/kg in the second phase and P204.79/kg in the first phase, respectively.
A kilogram of galunggong was priced at P234.08/kg in early October. This reflects an increase from its average retail prices of P232.37/kg in mid-September and P231.11/kg in early September.
It was also higher compared to its prices in October last year, which were P214.39/kg and P214.98/kg in the second and first phases, respectively.
Tomato had an average retail price of P113.80/kg across the country during the first phase of October 2025. This is an increase from its previous average retail prices of P102.49/kg in the second phase of September and P99.60/kg during the first phase of the same month.
Likewise, it was higher than its price levels of P92.43/kg during the second phase and P80.79/kg in the first phase of October 2024.
A nationwide average retail price of P172.71/kg was reported for Hawaiian ginger in the first phase of October 2025. This was a decline from its average retail prices of P177.81/kg and P181.50/kg during the second and first phases of September, respectively.
It was also lower than its price levels of P183.46/kg in the second phase and P187.78/kg in the first phase of October 2024.
Lakatan banana was priced at P89.88 during the first phase of October 2025. This was a decline from its average retail prices of P91.48/kg during the second phase of September 2025 and P92.16/kg during the first phase of September 2025.
Similarly, it was also lower than its prices from the previous year, which were P92.60/kg during the second phase of October 2024 and P91.25/kg during the first phase of October 2024.
Cooking oil retailed at an average of P188.30 per liter (L) nationwide during the first phase of October 2025. This reflects an increase from its average retail prices during the previous month, which were P186.68/L during the second phase and P186.59/L during the second phase of September.
It was also higher compared to its prices during the same month last year, which were P161.75/L during the second phase and P161.10/L during the second phase.
