Rice traders said that the prices of rice have been falling a little every day for a week due to the harvesting of new Boro paddy.

Prices will drop further when new rice arrives in the market within a week, they said.

The mill owners said that harvesting of new Boro has started, and they have also started buying.

At the same time, the price of rice has also started to decrease, they added.

At different markets of the district, per kilogram of Basmati rice is now being sold at Tk 88, which was sold at Tk 92 a week ago, while Miniket rice is being sold at Tk 80, which was at Tk 86.

Meanwhile, another 20,000 metric tonnes of rice imported from Vietnam has arrived in Bangladesh today.

On April 4, food adviser Ali Imam Majumder said that rice prices will likely increase slightly as the government is purchasing rice and paddy from farmers at Tk 4 more per kilogram than in previous years.

Bangladesh, the world’s third-largest rice producer, typically produces nearly 40 million tonnes of rice annually. However, natural disasters often disrupt production and lead to increased reliance on imports.
