Prices of rice, essential commodities remain stable: Commerce Minister

Staff Reporter

There is no scope for increasing prices after the budget as the supply situation is satisfactory, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said.

He said this at a briefing after visiting the Badamtoli wholesale rice market and Nayabazar raw market in the capital on Wednesday.

The Commerce Minister said that even after the announcement of the proposed budget, the wholesale and retail rice markets have remained stable. Although there is some difference in the prices of new and old rice, no overall increase has been seen.

He also said that the supply of rice in the market is normal and there is adequate stock. Not only rice, the prices of other daily necessities are also stable.

At the same time, State Minister for Food Md. Abdul Bari said that there is no shortage in the rice stock and supply system in the country. The government’s Boro paddy procurement activities are also going on satisfactorily.

He also said that news that creates panic about the market should not be circulated without verifying the real situation. The government is regularly monitoring the market situation and taking action as needed.
