Synopsis: The One-Stop Agricultural Service mechanism helps farmers get everything they need — from planting to selling — through a single, coordinated system, saving time, cost, and effort.

The One-Stop Agricultural Service (OSAS) is an important mechanism for reducing production costs towards increasing farmers’ income in rice production, said Yang Saing Koma, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), on Friday.

Speaking at a workshop on ‘Preparation for Coordinating the Phka Romduol Rice Market and Providing One-Stop Agricultural Services (OSAS)’ for nearly 60 commune agricultural officials in Preah Vihear province, Koma said the OSAS helps farmers get everything they need — from planting to selling — through a single, coordinated system, saving time, cost, and effort.

The workshop was also attended by Khat Sothy, Under Secretary of State (MAFF); Poeung Tryda, Director of Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; as well as representatives from the private sector, according to the statement of the ministry.

MAFF stated that the workshop aimed to share information on the Better Rice Initiative Cambodia (BRIC), introduce the concept of integrated agricultural services, and strengthen collaboration between MAFF, BRIC, and the One Stop Service model.

The workshop also focused on reducing carbon emissions from rice production, exploring opportunities to obtain carbon credits, and collecting feedback from stakeholders.

Koma urged Preah Vihear provincial agricultural officials to prepare for the coordination of the Phka Romduol rice market in November and to organise farmer groups so they can easily access a single package of services in the next season through the One Stop Service model – starting with harvesting services in November, followed by stubble cultivation in December, and other subsequent services.

“The OSAS mechanism plays a vital role in reducing production costs and increasing farmers’ income from rice cultivation,” Koma emphasised.

Taking the opportunity, he also encouraged all stakeholders to ensure effective cooperation so that the project aligns with government policies, particularly by working closely with commune agricultural officials and improving the quality and efficiency of services provided to farmers.
