OCD delivers more rice relief stock to Nueva Vizcaya

By Ben Moses Ebreo

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA)  The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) delivered 1,200 cavans of rice on December 3 to replenish the dwindling relief supply of the Provincial Local Government Unit as it continues to distribute aid to affected municipalities.

The assistance followed the declaration of a State of Calamity in the province by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

The new supply of rice, packed at 50 kilograms per cavan and currently stored at the National Food Authority (NFA) warehouse in Barangay Magsaysay, Bayombong, has lifted the spirits of disaster risk reduction officials as relief and recovery operations continue.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Flordelina Granada said municipal governments may request rice supply for residents severely affected by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan.

Governor Jose Gambito expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the OCD in Cagayan Valley, led by Director General Leon Rafael Jr.

“On behalf of the people of Nueva Vizcaya, I sincerely thank the Office of Civil Defense and Director General Rafael for their swift and generous assistance. These rice supplies, along with the hygiene kits and shelter fixing kits earlier provided, are a big help to our communities as we work to recover from the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan,” he said.

Gambito added that the state of calamity declaration will allow the provincial government to implement its disaster risk reduction and response programs.

Granada also noted that the PLGU is expecting 10,000 food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to support municipalities still providing relief to severely affected villagers. (OTB/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
