Hanoi (VNA) – Nearly 3,000 tonnes of rice from the national reserve will be allocated to seven provinces to support local people during Tet (traditional Lunar New Year) holiday and the lean season in early 2025 under two decisions recently signed by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc.

Under Decision No. 190/QD-TTg, over 2,519 tonnes of rice will be provided for five localities, with the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak getting the largest share of 878.1 tonnes, followed by the south-central province Ninh Thuan with over 735 tonnes, and the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang with 654.79 tonnes. Meanwhile, the northernmost mountainous province of Ha Giang and the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum will receive 146.73 tonnes and 58.14 tonnes, respectively. Besides, Kon Tum will be granted an extra 47 tonnes specifically for the between-crop period.

In the meantime, under Decision No.191/QD-TTg, more than 456.5 tonnes will be allocated to the northern province of Bac Kan and the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong. Bac Kan will receive 80.46 tonnes while Dak Nong will get nearly 142.7 tonnes for the Lunar New Year period and an additional 233.4 tonnes for the between-crop period.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to take prime responsibility for rice allocation and make reports on the work.

Meanwhile, the People’s Committees of the seven localities are responsible for providing support for the needy in a timely fashion and in line with regulations.
