MRF urges members to keep buying rice

Nyein Nyein

The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) asked member exporting companies to continue buying rice and paddy and to send a weekly inventory list to the MRF.
The harvest season of early matured paddy has started this year. Yet, demand for rice and paddy is declining, raising farmers’ concerns. The statement of the federation analyzed possible farm income losses.
MRF’s report indicated that about 200,000 tonnes of rice are exported monthly during the April-August period of the current financial year 2025-2026. The federation aims to convey 200,000 tonnes of rice to international markets in September. Starting from October, MRF is endeavouring to boost export volume to 300,000 tonnes per month until March 2026.
MRF has been striving to prioritize neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and China.
Professionals provide critical insights that rice prices are not unlikely to fall despite a significant drop in global rice prices last month.
MRF requested exporting companies to continue linking with brokers and traders in different regions and procuring rice. They can contact MRF for any inconvenience in freight forwarding, rice milling, and export markets promptly, make a business performance report and send an inventory list to the MRF every Friday through export@mif.com.mm, according to the MRF notification. — NN/KK
