The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said that so far paddy fields in four provinces have been rehabilitated while those in five others are affected by flash floods.

Khim Finan, a Ministry Undersecretary of State, said yesterday that as of October 10, a second wave of flash floods had affected paddy fields and mix crops in Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, Tboung Khmum, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Prey Veng and Kandal provinces during which 26,157 hectares of rice were damaged, with 13,541 hectares completely destroyed.

He said 1,041 hectares of mix crops were affected, of which 896 hectares were destroyed.

He said in Kratie province 8,258 hectares of rice crops were affected, of which 6,369 hectares were destroyed, 169 hectares of mixed crops were affected and 134 hectares destroyed.

He said that the floods in Kratie province affected Prek Prosop, Chhlong,Chit Borei, Sambour, O’ Kandier Senchey districts and Kratie city.

“The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has requested the Ministry for rice seeds to distribute to farmers for restoration of rice fields,” he said.

Finan said that in Stung Treng province, 618 hectares of rice fields were affected, of which 20 hectares were destroyed and 111 hectares of mixed food crops were affected with 24 hectares destroyed.

He added that floods affected Sesan, Siem Bouk, Thala Barivat, O’Svay Senchey districts and Stung Treng city and all paddy fields have been rehabilited.

He said that in Mondulkiri province, 567 hectares of rice crops and 20 hectares of mixed food crops were affected in Keo Seima and Koh Nhek districts, of which 654 hectares were restored.

In Kandal province, flood levels had receded while 48 hectares of rice fields were affected, with 45 hectares destroyed and 3 hectares rehabilitated.

He added in Tboung Khmum province, Dambe, Tboung Khmum, Memot, Krouch Chhmar, O’ Raing Ov districts and Soung city were still affected by floods.
