Minister of Agriculture urges rice farmers to prioritise climate-resilient seed selection

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Dith Tina, has urged rice farmers and producers to prioritise selecting rice seed varieties that are well-suited to Cambodia’s changing climate and evolving market demands.

Tina stressed the vital importance of choosing suitable rice seeds during a recent technical delegation meeting with farmers in Banteay Meanchey province.

The Minister said that using the right seeds is crucial for boosting productivity and resilience. Additionally, Tina promoted the adoption of modern agricultural methods to increase yields, enhance crop quality, and reduce production costs.

He said the ministry’s commitment to offering ongoing technical assistance, including advice on the proper use of fertilisers and pesticides.

To further strengthen the agricultural sector, the Minister also encouraged farmers to form cooperatives, which not only attract more support from government bodies and development partners but also enhance farmers’ bargaining power in the market.

Addressing concerns over restricted access to irrigation, the Minister pledged to work with relevant authorities to enhance water infrastructure and ensure more accessible irrigation systems for farming communities. AKP
