The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced the implementation of new maximum retail prices for imported rice varieties, effective from yesterday (21).

According to the gazette notification, the maximum retail price (MRP) of imported raw rice has been fixed at Rs. 210 per kilogram, while imported Nadu rice will be sold at a maximum of Rs. 220 per kilogram.

The MRP of imported Samba rice has been set at Rs. 230 per kilogram, Ponni Samba at Rs. 240, and Keeri Ponni Samba at Rs. 255 per kilogram.

The CAA stated that these price controls have been introduced to ensure fair pricing and protect consumers from undue price hikes in the market.
