Kunduz Invests $40M in Rice Processing Factories

Several workers employed in these factories welcome the establishment of such facilities.

The Directorate of Industry and Commerce of Kunduz said that over the past three years, nearly $40 million has been invested in the construction of rice processing factories in the province.

With the establishment of these factories, rice products are being processed to standard quality, creating employment opportunities for many people.

Kunduz is one of the agricultural provinces in the north of the country known for rice cultivation and production. Many farmers in the province sustain their livelihoods through this activity.

“Fifteen new factories have been established in the districts of Kunduz province, with a total investment of approximately $30 to $40 million. If these factories start operating, they will provide jobs for dozens of people,” said Mohammad Rahim Seerat, head of Kunduz’s Industry and Commerce.

Some factory owners are calling for greater support from the caretaker government for their activities and for the prevention of foreign rice imports.

“Alhamdulillah, rice production in the northern part of the country exceeds regional demand. Now, companies have been established that process products to standard levels like foreign countries. We ask the Islamic Emirate to stop the import of foreign rice,” said Mohammadullah, the head of a rice production factory in Kunduz.

“We request the Islamic Emirate to support us so we can process and supply rice properly within the country,” said, Ajab Khan Khalil, the manager of a production factory in Kunduz.

Several workers employed in these factories welcome the establishment of such facilities.

“I am very happy to work in such a factory. Other young people can also find jobs like I have in these factories,” said Sibghatullah, one of the workers.

“The activation of these factories provides good job opportunities for young people who have studied but are unemployed,” said Abdul Samad, another worker.

Rice, wheat, melons, watermelons, and grapes are among the important agricultural and horticultural products of Kunduz, which, in addition to meeting domestic needs, are also exported to other provinces and foreign countries.
