KHULNA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) – Farmers across the Khulna region are in the peak of Aman paddy harvesting, working tirelessly to bring home their produce before any potential natural disaster.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Khulna, the Aman cultivation target for the 2025–26 financial year was set at 2,98,635 hectares across four districts.

Cultivation was ultimately completed on 2,90,342 hectares—97.2 percent of the target. Until November 12, farmers had already harvested 50,603 hectares, representing 17.4 percent of the total cultivated land.

The DAE estimates that the region will produce approximately 8,59,902 metric tons of rice this Aman season.

In several villages of Khulna’s Dumuria and Dighlia upazilas, farmers are working simultaneously on harvesting and threshing. Many are already preparing their fields for the upcoming winter crop cycle.

SM Delwar Hossain, a farmer from Rupsa upazila, said he cultivated Aman paddy on 27 bighas of land this year and expects to harvest around 250 maunds of paddy.

Another farmer from the same area, Yasin Arafat, who cultivated 30 bighas, expects a yield of 300 maunds.

In Narail’s Kalia upazila, farmer Tayebur Kazi said that harvesting was nearly complete in his fields. “Harvesting and threshing are going on at the same time. I am only worried about potential rain. It will be a relief once the entire paddy is safely stored at home,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Dighlia upazila, farmer Rabiul from Gazirhat has already begun preparing for winter crops. “Threshing is in progress, and the paddy season is almost over. Now we must prepare the land for pulses and winter vegetables,” he said.

Local agriculture officials are closely monitoring harvesting activities. Md. Amirul Islam, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Kalia Upazila, said farmers in Dhusahati Block are working quickly to complete harvesting to avoid losses from unexpected weather.

“Farmers are also beginning preparations for Rabi crops, including oilseeds, pulses, and winter vegetables. We are providing the necessary guidance,” he added.

Dighalia Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Kishore Ahmed confirmed that Aman cultivation in the upazila had reached 100 percent of the target. He said that the BRRI-103 variety has gained remarkable popularity among farmers this season.

Rafiqul Islam, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Khulna region, is optimistic that the region’s Aman harvest will make a significant contribution to the national economy.

With harvesting progressing steadily and winter crop preparations underway, farmers in Khulna remain hopeful for a productive and profitable season ahead.
