RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The increase in rice production in Indonesia is a positive sign for food stability in the Southeast Asian region. The Ministry of Agriculture officially made the statement on its website on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Production in January 2026 reached 1.75 million tons, an increase of 38.56 percent. This figure is significantly higher than the January 2025 achievement of only 1.26 million tons. This increase strengthens Indonesia’s position in maintaining food supplies for its people.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, explained the details of the data. Improved harvests were the main factor behind the increase in production at the beginning of the year.

“In line with this picture of rice production, production equivalent to rice for public consumption in January 2026 was 1.75 million tons, an increase of 38.56 percent compared to January 2025, which was 1.26 million tons,” Ateng conveyed.

The harvest potential for the period from February to April 2026 is expected to continue to increase sharply. The government predicts that total production could reach 13.98 million tons of rice.

The Java region is still the main backbone in producing milled dry grain. However, the Sumatra and Sulawesi regions are also showing increasingly significant contributions.

Domestic production stability can reduce dependence on the international rice market. If production remains stable, global rice prices can also be maintained.
