JAKARTA – The Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that Indonesia continued to import rice in October 2025.

BPS Deputy Director of Statistics, Distribution and Services, Pudji Ismartini, stated in October 2025 that the volume of rice imports reached 40,700 tonnes with a value of US$19.1 million or approximately 317.93 billion rupees (with an exchange rate of 16.646 rupees).

“In October 2025, rice imports will amount to 40,700 tonnes for a value of US$19.1 million,” he said at a press conference on Monday, December 1.

In total, Indonesian rice imports from January 2025 to October 2025 amounted to 364,300 tonnes with a value of US$178.5 million or the equivalent of 37.84 trillion Indonesian rupiah (exchange rate of 16,646 rupiah).

He added that the main rice-supplying countries from January 2025 to October 2025 would be Laos, Thailand and India.

Previously, the Chairman of Commission IV of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Titiek Soeharto, insisted that there was zero tolerance for any party that tried to introduce imported rice into Indonesia.

Regarding Titiek’s statement, it responds to the findings of 250 tons of rice originating from Thailand that entered through Sabang and is now being processed by the government.

During a meeting with Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, Titiek said his party directly questioned the case. According to him, the government has a clear policy that Indonesia will not reopen rice imports.

“We also asked the minister about the 250 tons of rice imported from Thailand. The government announced that there were no rice imports, we have become self-sufficient in rice,” he told reporters in Jakarta on Monday, November 24.

That is why Titiek warned that there should be no party trying to play with politics.

“So, whoever wants to try to import rice, we ask that they be prosecuted legally. Because it is the government’s wisdom, there are no imports and we are self-sufficient. Don’t try anything,” he said.
