Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Government has announced the allocation of a six-month rice aid programme of 2025, aimed at supporting low-income communities, the country’s National Food Agency (Bapanas) has said.

President Prabowo Subianto made the distribution decision at a limited meeting held on December 30.

Accordingly, 10 kilograms of rice per recipient will be distributed for six months, starting January, said head of the agency Arief Prasetyo Adi.

The initiative, proposed by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, aims to increase the allocation of food assistance for low-income communities.

The Government, in collaboration with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), is ready to distribute a total of 960,000 tonnes of rice to 16 million food assistance recipients over six months in 2025, Adi remarked.

He added the rice assistance programme is part of the government’s economic policy package and serves as relief aid for low-income groups. The Government continues to refine the database of aid beneficiaries in 2025. Focus is on women who head poor households and elderly individuals who live alone.

The Indonesian Government will use the 2025 Socio-Economic Registration Data from the National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas) as the database for rice aid distribution.

The rice assistance programme is also expected to support the Government’s poverty alleviation efforts.
