India has unveiled an ambitious five-year plan to double its agricultural exports, focusing particularly on increasing rice exports. Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, announced the initiative in a video statement, emphasizing the dual strategy of export growth and a strengthened public distribution system to safeguard citizens.
At the heart of this plan is the Bharat International Rice Conference (BRIC) 2025, which serves as a pivotal step towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The conference, organized by the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF), underscores the nation’s commitment to becoming a global leader in rice trade by enhancing quality, safety, and affordability.
Minister Joshi highlighted India’s position as the largest producer and a leading exporter of rice while reaffirming the government’s pledge to maintain food and nutrition security. The plan includes modernizing the public distribution network, enhancing export infrastructure, and promoting innovative rice products. Joshi urged stakeholders to ‘dream big and plan boldly’ for the agri-market’s future.
