The interim government of Bangladesh is all set to receive its first consignment of rice imported from India. This move comes amidst the Muhammad Yunus government inching closer to Pakistan, rather than India, which helped the nation in 1971 and paved the way for its due recognition.
Bangladesh had welcomed two ships from Karachi port twice in the past few days. On November 13, a container-carrying ship arrived at Chittagong port. This had happened for the first time since Bangladesh’s Independence.
According to a report published in Times of India, the ship ‘MV Tanais Dream’ will be arriving at Chauddagram Port on Thursday with 24,690 metric tonnes of parboiled rice imported from India under open trade agreement.
A senior Bangladesh food ministry official said that they will collect the sample of rice after conducting a physical examination and the process of unloading will be commenced.
Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, said that he is hopeful that relations between the two countries will become normal despite recent developments being unfriendly.
Verma said India wants to see democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive growth of Bangladesh.
