Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries has provided rice seeds to four provinces affected by drought and floods as of yesterday. After the floods receded in Kratie, Tboung Khmum, Kampong Thom, and Kampong Cham provinces, the Ministry distributed rice seeds to these areas to help farmers rehabilitate their crops.

Khim Finan, the undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, stated that 20,383 hectares of rice crops were impacted, with 10,579 hectares destroyed. Additionally, 851 hectares of mixed crops were affected, including 435 hectares that were destroyed.

Preliminary assessments from the Ministry indicated that 5,872 hectares of rice crops were saved and rehabilitated, along with 586 hectares of mixed crops.

On October 18, Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, distributed 467.2 tonnes of rice seeds to 4,672 farming families from seven cities and districts in Kampong Thom province who were affected by floods, at the Kampong Svay district hall.

The Kampong Cham Provincial Disaster Management Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture distributed approximately 8.3 tonnes of rice seeds through the food reserve system to 83 families affected by drought and floods in three communes in Choeung Prey district, Kampong Cham province.

The distribution of rice seeds was led by Un Chanda, the Provincial Governor and Chairman of the Kampong Cham Provincial Disaster Management Committee, along with Pheng Kim Srun, Undersecretary of State from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, on Tuesday.

Chanda noted that each family received rice seeds after their crops were damaged by the floods and drought, and he also instructed experts to guide the community on how to cultivate the rice seeds.

He added that the Ministry selected the high-grade rice seed OM5451, which is suitable for various types of land and conditions, takes only 90 to 95 days to grow, and produces high yields.
