The government has approved the procurement of 110 million litres of rice bran oil for its Open Market Sale (OMS) program.

The approval came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Tuesday, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, where the Ministry of Commerce placed the proposal.

According to the proposal, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will purchase the bulk edible oil from four local firms that secured the contract through an open tender process.

Under the deal, Majumder Products Ltd will supply 5 million litres of rice bran oil, while Tamim Agro Industries Ltd, Prodhan Oil Mills Ltd, and Green Oil & Poultry Feed Industries will each supply 2 million litres.

The total cost of the procurement is Tk177.1 crore, with each litre priced at Tk161.

The committee also approved a proposal from state-run Petrobangla to import one liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the international spot market through a global quotation process.

Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd won the contract and will supply the cargo at a cost of Tk584.16 crore.
