The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) today (22 October) gave approval for the import of a total of 100,000 metric tonnes of rice, including parboiled and Atap varieties, worth about Tk446.22 crore, alongside several key infrastructure and power sector proposals at its meeting.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting virtually.

According to official sources, the committee endorsed the Food Ministry’s proposal to procure 50,000 metric tonnes of non-Basmati parboiled rice under Package-02 through international open tender.

The rice will be imported by the Directorate General of Food at a total cost of Tk216.90 crore. The per metric tonne price has been set at US$355.99, with M/S CredentOne FZCO of Dubai recommended as the qualified bidder.

In another proposal, the committee recommended approval for the import of 50,000 metric tonnes of Atap rice from Myanmar under a Government-to-Government (G2G) arrangement.

The total cost for this purchase stands at Tk229.32 crore, with a per tonne price of US$376.50. The supplier will be the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF), based in Yangon.

Besides, the committee endorsed a major infrastructure project under the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA).

The proposal involves the construction of access roads for Mirsarai-2A and 2B Economic Zones in Chattogram, at a cost of Tk208.99 crore.

Monico Limited has been recommended as the contractor for the package titled WD3-BSMSN-BEZA, part of the ongoing National Special Economic Zone Development Project.

The ACCGP also approved the Power Division’s proposal for reprocessing the procurement of five new 33/11 KV (10/14 MVA) GIS-type substations under the ‘Modernisation and Capacity Enhancement of the BREB Power Distribution System (Khulna Division) – Special Revision’ project.

The committee endorsed the proposal for resubmission under revised procedures.
