Four million ton rice reserves reflect self-reliance: Minister
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that reaching four million tons in government rice reserves demonstrates both improved farmer welfare and the nation’s self-reliance.
“All parties have worked together to help Indonesia secure the biggest rice reserves in history,” he remarked in Jakarta on Friday.
This achievement is inseparable from the strategic vision of President Prabowo Subianto, who has consistently encouraged various strategic breakthroughs through the issuance of Presidential Instructions to strengthen production and facilitate farmers.
The government has set a new record in national food governance. For the first time since the state-run logistics company Perum Bulog was established in 1969, the government’s rice reserves have reached an impressive four million tons.
According to a real-time report as of Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 9:41 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), Bulog’s rice absorption stood at 2,407,257 tons, while total official national rice stocks reached 4,001,059 tons.
This figure is seen as a symbol of successful national collaboration to strengthen food security and improve the welfare of Indonesian farmers.
Minister Sulaiman expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all parties who contributed to this achievement.
With strong cross-sectoral collaboration and effective strategic policies, the government remains optimistic about Indonesia’s food security.
Earlier, the minister noted that, based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), national rice production is projected to reach 18.76 million tons in the first half of 2025, representing an 11.17 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The increase in production is attributed to successful government programs in expanding planting land, providing quality fertilizer subsidies at affordable prices, and distributing agricultural machine tools on a massive scale.
