DNCRP fines 3 Ctg rice wholesalers for various violations

DNCRP issued formal warnings to all three businesses and held a meeting with the local market committee to raise awareness on consumer rights

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined three rice wholesalers a total of Tk 1.18 lakh for violations including mislabeling, underweight sales, and price irregularities during a market monitoring drive at Pahartali Bazar in Chattogram city today (8 July).

The drive was led by DNCRP Deputy Director Mohammad Fayez Ullah and conducted jointly by the Chattogram Divisional and District Offices with support from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

Massers Chowdhury and Co. received the highest fine of Tk 1,00,000 for repackaging and selling substandard rice under various brand names. Massers Haque Rice Agency was fined Tk 8,000 for improper storage and preservation, while Massers Ador Store was fined Tk 10,000 for selling underweight rice and price discrepancies.

Formal warnings were issued to all three businesses. DNCRP also held a meeting with the local market committee to raise awareness on consumer rights.

“We are committed to ensuring the rights of consumers through regular monitoring. No one involved in malpractice will be spared,” Fayez Ullah said.
