JAKARTA – Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono said rice production in Indonesia is currently abundant compared to neighboring countries such as Malaysia.

“Our production is abundant in the midst of neighboring countries, rice is difficult. Malaysia is difficult, then the Philippines is also having a hard time, including Japan also rising, from Rp40,000/kg now Rp90,000/kg,” said Sudaryono as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 21.

He said, during this first planting period, rice absorption and grain at the farmer level had reached 1.3 million tons.

“I hope that by the end of April 2 million tons will be top,” he said.

If the absorption of rice and grain can be in accordance with the target, his party will immediately convey to President Prabowo Subianto that this year there is no need for rice imports.

“We can count again, so we can tell the President that this year we really will not import,” he said.

Sudaryono ensured that farmers and consumers were both happy with the current price of rice.

“In the midst of the negative issues raised by certain parties, thank God the people are happy. If there are one or two, for example, people complain about the absorption of grain, the ungraft is not taken, we will try to fix it. But not then one case closes 10,000 or millions of cases. So that what is good we convey is good,” he said.

Regarding the rice achievement, he also conveyed it to Jokowi.

“Earlier he was praised that absorption was abundant,” he said.
