Cambodia will host the World Rice Conference in 2025, following the country’s fragrant rice Malys Angkor winning the World’s Best Rice title last year.

Malys Angkor, the certification mark for Cambodian Premium Aromatic Rice, won the World’s Best Rice for the sixth time at the World’s Best Rice Competition on November 7 during the World Rice Conference 2024 in Manila, the Philippines.

The announcement of Cambodia hosting the World Rice Conference 2025 was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Jeremy Zwinger, President and CEO of The Rice Trader (TRT) and founder of the World Rice Conference (WRC), at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, on Wednesday.

Zwinger expressed his support for Cambodia’s hosting of the World Rice Conference, citing the country’s rapid development in the rice sector with remarkable progress in rice, logistics, and other infrastructure sectors.

Mr Hun Manet thanked Zwinger for his support and emphasized the importance of rice production for the country’s long-term agricultural goals.

“The Cambodian government’s key policies aimed at boosting Cambodia’s rice production to enhance competitiveness, as well as developing infrastructure and logistics to facilitate transportation and reduce costs,” the Prime Minister said.

Winning the World’s Best Rice award for the sixth time has put the Kingdom on a prestigious level. It first won the title in 2012, followed in 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

CRF and relevant parties will jointly promote further the country’s rice to the world through international exhibitions and events, said Lun Yeng, Secretary General of the Cambodia Rice Federation.

The remarkable achievement underscores Cambodia’s growing reputation as a global rice producing country, he said, adding that with the tag of World Best rice producing country, Cambodia’s rice will be promoted widely, boosting market accesses, and export.

Cambodia exported 575,562 tonnes of rice in the first 11 months of 2024, generating $413 million in revenue.

The exported rice varieties included fragrant rice, organic rice, white rice, parboiled rice and japonica rice.
