CAA to Inspect Warehouses and Large-Scale Rice Mills for Raw Rice Shortage.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Consumer Affairs Authority has announced that it will conduct inspections in large-scale rice mills and warehouses to investigate the shortage of raw rice in the market.

Its Chairman Hemantha Samarakoon stated that inspections will be carried out in the areas of Hambantota, Matara, Monaragala, Embilipitiya, and Ampara.

He also mentioned that support will be sought from district secretaries for these inspections.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs has announced that 12,000 metric tons of imported rice are expected to arrive at the Colombo port.

According to Customs spokesperson Seevali Arukgoda, a total of 75,000 metric tons of imported rice has already been released through Customs.
