Bulog to Distribute 1.5 Million Tons of Rice This Year

Reporter: M. Faiz Zaki

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian State Logistics Agency (Bulog) will distribute 1.5 million tons of rice through the Stabilization of Supply and Food Price (SPHP) program this year. The Director of Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, stated that the distribution will be continuous without any interruptions.

Rizal explained that the distribution mechanism for food commodities will remain similar to previous ones. Bulog will allow one buyer to purchase a larger quantity of rice, increasing from one package to two.

Previously, the government launched the SPHP rice program on July 18, 2025, to maintain the purchasing power of the public, control inflation, and drive the national economy. Rice can be purchased through Bulog’s partner retail traders, the Red and White Village Cooperatives, and others who collaborate with the government.

Last year, each person could buy a maximum of 2 packages, each weighing 5 kilograms, and it was prohibited to resell them. The available prices were based on zones, namely Zone 1 at Rp 12,500 per kilogram, Zone 2 at Rp 13,100 per kilogram, and Zone 3 at Rp 13,500 per kilogram.

However, Rizal mentioned that in 2025, the distributed SPHP rice only reached 802,939 tons and did not meet the 1 million ton target. Therefore, the quantity per person will be increased.

“We will make it easier, perhaps more flexible, especially in terms of quantity,” he said.

Based on Bulog‘s data as of January 8, 2026, the rice reserves amount to 3,351,900 tons. Bulog aims to absorb 4 million tons this year, totaling the 2026 reserves to around 7 million tons, with 1 million tons allocated for export.
