JAKARTA – The National Food Agency or Bapanas asked Perum Bulog to strengthen the supply of premium rice in modern retail networks. This step is taken when the government also tightens supervision of fortified rice products that are suspected of not being in accordance with the provisions.

Head of Bapanas and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said that the community’s needs must continue to be met. He asked Bulog to optimize the distribution of premium rice to modern retail stores.

“There is no other word except to meet the needs of the community. We ask Bulog to optimize the supply to modern retail stores,” said Amran, quoted from Antara, Sunday, September 20.

The government assesses that the national rice supply is still safe. As of September 18, 2026, the government’s rice reserve stocks managed by Bulog reached around 4.6 million tons, while distribution throughout the year until mid-September was around 2.3 million tons.

The government is also processing an additional distribution of 1 million tons of SPHP rice. The supply will be directed to areas with high needs to maintain availability and prices.

At the same time, the government is strengthening the distribution of premium rice. Bulog is preparing supplies of up to 75 thousand tons per month for a number of modern retail networks.

Director of Perum Bulog Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said that the distribution of premium rice has reached a number of major cities, including Jakarta, Makassar, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Bojonegoro, Semarang, Klaten, Solo, Salatiga, Bandung, Karawang, Subang, and Kupang.

“This distribution is aimed at ensuring that people in various big cities and urban areas can easily get premium rice,” said Rizal.

Bulog will also continue to expand supplies to other cities. Distribution is carried out through a number of modern retail networks to expand public access to premium rice, especially in areas with high consumption needs.

The strengthening of supplies goes hand in hand with monitoring the quality of rice in the market. Amran said the government found evidence of a change in product from premium rice to fortified rice.

The product was then examined in four laboratories that were said to be credible. According to Amran, the results of the examination showed that there were products that did not match the information on the label.

“It turns out that there is an allegation of rice fraud switching from premium to fortification. He said fortification, after we checked in the lab, there were four credible labs, we checked that it did not match the label,” he said.

Bulog distributes premium rice supplies through a number of retail networks, including Indomaret, Super Indo, Hypermart, Tip Top, Alfamidi, and other retail networks that cooperate with Bulog.
