Bapanas Adds 74.18 Thousand Tons of SPHP Rice, Supply Decreases After Raya Harvest

JAKARTA – The National Food Agency or Bapanas has added 74.18 thousand tons of rice distribution for the Food Supply and Price Stabilization program to maintain supplies and contain rice inflation.
The addition is equivalent to around 14.83 million packs of SPHP rice measuring 5 kilograms and will be distributed by Perum Bulog until November 20, 2026.
Head of Bapanas Andi Amran Sulaiman said the budget requirement for the additional assignment reached Rp. 409 billion.
“To maintain rice inflation, the government through Bapanas issued a task to Perum Bulog to increase the allocation of the Rice Supply and Food Price Stabilization program by 74,180 tons,” said Amran, quoted from Antara, Sunday, October 4.
The new assignment was given after Bulog completed the distribution of 828 thousand tons of SPHP on September 23, 2026.
According to Amran, government rice stocks are still at a high level. Government rice reserves managed by Bulog are recorded at 4.48 million tons as of September 30, 2026.
“Now our rice stock is a lot. Indonesia no longer imports medium rice. We operate large, SPHP rice is poured. Then, there is food assistance for 33.24 million people throughout Indonesia,” he said.
Annual rice inflation in September 2026 was recorded at 3.73 percent. This figure increased compared to the previous month, but was still lower than September 2025 which was 4.06 percent.
In September 2024, rice inflation reached 5.91 percent.
From 2026 to the end of September, the distribution of Government Rice Reserves has reached 2.73 million tons.
This figure is up 245 percent compared to September 2025 which was 790,800 tons. Meanwhile, government rice stocks increased 14.8 percent from 3.9 million tons to 4.48 million tons.
The pressure on rice prices in September is inseparable from the reduced supply after the peak harvest season ended.
BPS Distribution and Services Statistics Deputy Ateng Hartono said that the drier drought conditions due to El Nino also limited planting activities and the supply of rice to mills.
“For the increase in rice prices in September 2026, this is mainly influenced by the reduction in rice supplies after the end of the peak harvest season,” said Ateng.
Despite facing El Nino, BPS recorded that the area of rice harvest from January to November 2026 is estimated to reach 10.56 million hectares.
This figure is higher than 2023 which is 9.86 million hectares and 2024 which is 9.69 million hectares.
In September 2026, the rice farmer’s rice price index also reached 155.61, the highest in the last eight years.
