“Our food production has never before in history reached government rice reserves of more than 4.2 million tons. Corn production has also risen by 30 percent, rice by 48 percent, and we will continue to strengthen these gains,” Prabowo said during the Indonesian Solidarity Party congress on Sunday.

Apart from stressing the importance of monitoring food distribution to prevent abuse by irresponsible parties amid the production surge, he also condemned price manipulation practices by certain business players who sell ordinary rice under premium labels to reap excessive profits.

“I have instructed the attorney general and the police to investigate and take firm action against these perpetrators without exception,” Prabowo said, adding that such practices could cost the state up to 100 trillion rupiahs (around 6.1 billion U.S. dollars) annually.
