The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a subsidised rice distribution programme to provide relief to consumers amid rising retail prices.

The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Rice Millers Association, aims to stabilise market prices while ensuring the availability of quality rice, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar said on Sunday.

Under the scheme, BPT steam rice, which was selling at ₹64–65 per kg in the open market, will now be available at ₹52 per kg, while BPT raw rice will be sold at ₹50 per kg against the prevailing market price of ₹58–60. Each family can purchase up to 10 kg at the subsidised rate.

Sales commenced on Saturday through 150 Rythu Bazaars and 500 rice mill outlets across the State. The Minister said the coalition government would continue interventions to protect consumers and was also monitoring the prices of tur dal and palm oil to contain food inflation, according to a release.
