Rice pesticides

Pesticides used for rice crop:

Some classes of insecticides are widely used by rice farmers including:

  1. Pyrethroids
  2. Carbamates
  3. Neritoxins
  4. phenyl pyrazole
  5. thiadiazine
  6. Organophosphate.

Additionally:

  • Lambda-cyhalothrin
  • Malathion
  • Zeta-cypermethrin

All broad-spectrum pesticides used on rice.

Zeta-cypermethrin is better known as Mustang, while lambda-cyhalothrin is sold as Warrior. When it comes to chemicals that persist on the food after it’s harvested and sold, some pesticides remain.

Why do rice farmers use pesticides?

Pesticides are an important tool used in efforts to control insect pests. About 20–30% of agricultural produce is lost annually due to insect pests, diseases, weeds and rodents. Therefore, judicious use of pesticides plays a major role in plant protection.
