Coffee prices today, September 21, 2026
World coffee prices are under pressure from abundant supply.

Over the past week, robusta coffee futures contracts for November 2026 delivery on the London exchange fell by a total of 3.7% (US$129/ton) compared to the previous week, to US$3,396/ton. The January 2027 contract decreased by 3.8% (US$135/ton), reaching US$3,373/ton.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for December 2026 delivery fell 1.8% (5.2 US cents/pound) last week, reaching 280.5 US cents/pound. The March 2027 contract fell 1.9% (5.3 US cents/pound), reaching 271.95 US cents/pound.

In contrast to the domestic coffee market, the global coffee market saw gains at the end of the week, led by a strong increase in arabica coffee prices. On the New York exchange, the price of arabica coffee for December 2026 delivery rose by 1.27% to 271.95 cents/pound. On the London exchange, robusta coffee prices also edged up slightly. The November 2026 contract also recorded a 0.15% increase, reaching $3,369/ton.

Analysts believe the recovery in global markets is primarily short-term technical. The weakening of the US dollar from its 7-week peak has spurred speculative buying to cover short positions in the futures market.

A report from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that as of mid-September 2026, speculators had shifted to a net short position of 1,716 arabica contracts.

Despite the price increase, the market’s main trend remains under significant pressure from abundant supply. According to data from the ICE Exchange, robusta inventories on the ICE exchange rose to their highest level in 9.5 months, reaching 5,043 lots this week. Similarly, ICE-managed arabica inventories increased by 10,528 bags on September 18th, totaling 258,415 bags, a 1.5-month high.

The supply outlook is further strengthened by favorable weather conditions in key growing regions of Vietnam and Brazil . According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Brazil’s coffee exports in the 2026-2027 crop year are projected to reach a new record of 49.1 million bags. Despite heavy rains affecting harvest quality in June and July 2026, the South American nation’s export pace remains very high. In just the first two months of the new crop year, Brazil exported 7.2 million bags, an increase of over 21% compared to the same period last year, continuing to put significant supply pressure on global coffee prices.

Domestic coffee prices , contrary to global trends, fell by 1,500-1,700 VND/kg last week compared to the previous week, dropping below 94,000 VND/kg. According to Reuters, traders said robusta coffee prices in Vietnam declined this week due to sluggish trading activity, even as supply remains scarce.

According to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 15 days of September 2026, Vietnam exported 10,915 tons of pepper, earning 70.0 million USD, an increase of 3.8% in volume compared to 10,514 tons in the first 15 days of August 2026.

Asia continued to be the largest export region with 5,741 tons, accounting for 52.6% and increasing by 1.6%. Notably, China reached 2,125 tons, up 34.1%, while the UAE decreased by 42.1% to 570 tons. The Americas saw a strong increase of 44.2%, reaching 3,111 tons; the US alone accounted for 2,905 tons, up 62.4%, representing 26.6% of total exports. Conversely, Europe decreased by 26.3% to 1,594 tons and Africa decreased by 13.8% to 469 tons.

Today’s export rice prices (September 21, 2026)

On the export market, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of Vietnamese rice continues to remain stable.

In Vietnam, the export price of 5% broken white rice fluctuated between 423 and 427 USD/ton , a slight decrease of 1 USD/ton .

Export prices for Jasmine rice fell by $6/ton to $526-$530/ton, a decrease of $4/ton.

The price of fragrant rice with 5% broken grains increased to 440-445 USD/ton, a slight decrease of 5 USD/ton .

In Thailand, the price of 5% broken white rice continues to remain the highest among leading exporting countries, at approximately US$477-481 per ton. The price of 5% broken white rice from Pakistan also showed no significant change, fluctuating between US$419-423 per ton. Meanwhile, 5% broken white rice from India is offered at US$375-379 per ton, while parboiled 5% broken rice reaches US$377-381 per ton.

India’s rice output is expected to fall for the first time in a decade and the sharpest decline in nearly 20 years, as lower-than-normal rainfall during the rice ripening period threatens to reduce yields, Reuters reported, citing industry officials.

The decline in production in the world’s largest rice producer and exporter will push domestic prices higher and make exported rice more expensive, while prices in other exporting countries such as Thailand and Vietnam are also rising. However, the massive stockpiles accumulated from record bumper harvests in recent years will help New Delhi maintain record-high exports despite the reduced production.

The story of the import and export market.

Investors’ focus is currently on the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Markets expect the talks to reshape the outlook for Chinese purchases of US agricultural products. To pave the way for this meeting, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will hold a high-level meeting this weekend.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on September 20 that he had a successful meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the US on September 24 this week. The talks covered artificial intelligence (AI) and trade, among other issues.

Mr. Bessent, appearing after a meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, said the two sides discussed establishing a “U.S.-China AI Dialogue,” in which the U.S. proposed a mechanism for notifying each other about AI-related incidents. He said this notification mechanism would apply to AI-induced incidents that are serious enough to warrant national security intervention.

According to him, both sides believe that, like any cross-border activity, the shift from a lack of transparency to greater transparency between the world’s number one and number two AI powers is crucial.

The meeting between Mr. Bessent and Mr. He Lifeng took place against the backdrop of increasingly heated debates in Washington about AI safety and national security, as the US and China compete for technological leadership. The Trump administration supports voluntary safeguards focused on national security, rather than broad mandatory regulations for AI developers. This issue is expected to be on the agenda for discussions between the leaders of the two countries during the Chinese President’s visit.

U.S. Trade Representative Greer said the U.S. and China have “put into operation” the U.S.-China Trade Council, aimed at supporting and advancing trade negotiations by identifying a “sufficient volume of goods” that can be considered separately “when and if trade measures” are taken in the future.

According to Greer, these goods could include “consumer goods, low-tech items” from China, and “energy products, agricultural products, and possibly medical equipment” from the United States.

The meeting takes place ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s important visit to Washington this week. Besides AI, the summit is likely to address other issues such as trade and tariffs. A key element of the current US-China trade truce – the US suspension of increased retaliatory tariffs on Chinese imports – is set to expire on November 10th.

The current truce includes commitments from China to export rare earth minerals and purchase U.S. agricultural products, while the Trump administration has reduced some tariffs and suspended higher retaliatory tariffs on Chinese goods.

The U.S. and China are seeking to de-escalate tensions over trade, technology, and other strategic issues, including potentially extending the trade truce and establishing safeguards for AI development.

Stephen Innes, a market analyst at Quintex Intel, believes that Bessent and He Lifeng have laid the groundwork for a meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping in New York, with trade, investment, and AI issues on the negotiating table, but the market currently does not expect a major breakthrough agreement.

Furthermore, high oil prices remain a concern, amid persistent inflationary pressures and geopolitical risks in the Middle East. Monetary authorities worldwide have faced increasing pressure in recent months as oil prices remain high while the conflict between the US and Iran shows no sign of ending anytime soon.
