Rice cost more, pork cheaper in mid-August

THE average retail price of well-milled rice rose to P56.29 per kilogram in mid-August (Aug. 15-17), from P55.93 in early August (Aug. 1-5) and P55.69 in mid-July, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported over the weekend.
The latest price was also higher than the P47.07 and P47.22 in mid- and early August last year, respectively.
Fresh pork, meanwhile, averaged P298.39/kg in mid-August, down from P300.79 in early August and P306.16 in mid-July. It was also cheaper than the P330.56 in mid-August 2025 and P333.74 in early August last year.
Galunggong prices continued to climb, averaging P246.13/kg in mid-August, compared with P241.46 in early August and P238.62 in mid-July. The latest figure was also higher than P228.08 in mid-August 2025 and P227.60 in early August last year.
Baguio beans retailed at P137.52/kg in mid-August, up from P123.38 in early August and P129.85 in mid-July. However, prices remained below the P144.44 recorded in mid-August 2025 and P140.83 in early August last year.
Imported garlic cost more at P160.07/kg in mid-August from P158.42 in early August and P157.11 in mid-July. Despite the increase, the latest price was lower than the P169.84 in mid-August 2025 and P169.69 in early August last year.
Carabao mangoes sold for P164.32/kg in mid-August, up from P156.24 in early August and P148.23 in mid-July. The price was also slightly higher than the P164.07 in early August 2025, but below the P167.29 in mid-August last year.
Cooking oil edged up to P200.55 per liter in mid-August from P200.04 in early August and P199.44 in mid-July. It was also higher than the P184.50 in mid-August 2025 and P184.47 in early August last year.
