Côte d’Ivoire parliament leader explores Vietnam’s rice production and processing

VOV.VN – Côte d’Ivoire National Assembly President Patrick Achi visited a high-tech rice producer in Can Tho City on August 25 to learn about Vietnam’s rice production, processing and export model, as the two countries seek to expand agricultural cooperation and share development experience.

Vietnamese National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and Côte d’Ivoire National Assembly President Patrick Achi visit Trung An High-Tech Agriculture JSC in Can Tho City on August 25, 2026

Vietnamese National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man joined his distinguished guest on a visit to Trung An High-Tech Agriculture JSC, where they were briefed on the company’s development, rice production model, processing and packaging operations, and export activities.

The delegation also toured the company’s export rice packaging line and learned about the use of advanced technologies to produce and process clean and organic rice for domestic and international markets.

Learning from Vietnam’s rice production model

The visit gave the Ivorian delegation a closer look at how Vietnam combines large-scale production, high-tech processing and export-oriented supply chains to increase the value of rice.

Trung An has around 18 years of experience in exporting rice and rice-based products and has developed production links covering nearly 10,000 hectares across the Mekong Delta.

The company has pursued an integrated model linking large-scale rice fields with processing facilities, while applying technology throughout the production process to improve product quality and value.

The Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s main rice-producing region, has around 3.9 million hectares of cultivated land and produces an average of about 24 million tonnes of rice a year. The country’s total annual rice output is around 45 million tonnes.

By comparison, Côte d’Ivoire produces roughly 2 million tonnes of rice annually, giving cooperation and experience-sharing in production, processing and value addition considerable potential.

Agricultural products are already an important part of Vietnam-Côte d’Ivoire trade. Vietnam exports rice and other agricultural products to Côte d’Ivoire, while importing products including raw cashew nuts, cotton and other materials from the West African country.

Vietnamese companies have also established export networks in Côte d’Ivoire, including Trung An, creating a foundation for deeper commercial links in the agricultural sector.

The visit was therefore an opportunity for Côte d’Ivoire to study Vietnam’s experience not only in rice cultivation, but also in organising production, improving productivity, processing agricultural products and increasing export value.

For Vietnam, closer agricultural cooperation could also help expand trade ties with Côte d’Ivoire and strengthen connections with the wider West African market.

Côte d’Ivoire National Assembly President Patrick Achi is on an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Thanh Man.

During their earlier talks on August 23, the two sides agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, and vocational training among others. They increasingly highlighted agriculture as an area with complementary strengths and practical potential.

Côte d’Ivoire expressed interest in Vietnam’s experience in agricultural policy, training, cooperatives, market organisation and agro-processing.
