The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has reported that about 237,500 hectares of rice fields affected by drought have been rescued, accounting for 95% of the total affected area, while 12,500 hectares were completely damaged.

The ministry made the announcement yesterday, saying more than 250,000 hectares of rice-growing land had been affected by drought in recent months.

Of the affected farmland, about 237,500 hectares, or 95%, were successfully rescued and restored in time, while the remaining 12,500 hectares were damaged beyond recovery.

Agriculture Minister Dith Tina previously said the ministry had taken measures to assist farmers whose rice fields suffered severe damage and could not be recovered.

He said the ministry had already prepared rice seeds to distribute to affected farmers so they could replant their fields and resume production.
