USDA’s Acreage report will be released on Tuesday, and a market analyst with RCM Ag Services says he’s interested to see what surprises could be coming for rice and cotton.

Jamie Wilkerson says he’s expecting U.S. planted rice acres to be lower than USDA expected. “I really think they overstated the acreage in March, the intentions for Arkansas, especially, at 900,000 acres. That was a significant reduction from what Arkansas would typically plant, but we actually have people who have grown rice for years who have cut back to zero acres of rice or the minimal amount they had to plant on certain fields,” he says.
