Gov’t imposes price cap on imported rice

Katrina Domingo

MANILA — Months after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the approval of a price cap on imported rice, Malacañang has finally released the executive order that formalizes the policy designed to tame inflation.

After the Middle East war, Marcos said that he approved a P50 price cap on imported rice for thirty days.

The Executive Order detailing the price cap was released to the public today.

Last week, Malacañang said that the President has ordered the Department of Agriculture (DA) to tame rice inflation after the price of the staple grain rose by 13.7 percent in April compared to the same month in 2025, according to government data.

Marcos’ Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) Committee is set to reconvene on May 19 to discuss more programs for the Philippines to better weather the impact of oil supply issues in the Middle East.
