USDA makes a pair of changes to U.S. rice balance sheet, none for cotton

By John Perkins

The USDA left U.S. cotton and rice ending stocks projections steady.

For rice, the USDA did lower imports, but also cut exports, all out of long grain rough rice, leaving ending stocks at 50.3 million hundredweight.

There were no changes to the balance sheet for U.S. cotton, which stayed at 4.4 million bales.

The average 2025/26 farm price for rice is estimated at $12.10 per hundredweight with upland cotton at $.60 per pound, both unchanged on the month. The 2025/26 marketing year for cotton and rice kicked off August 1st.

Globally, there was no change to rice production, but stocks did grow on a reduction for exports, while world cotton stocks increased with a rise in production, with exports also up on the month.

The USDA’s next round of supply and demand numbers is out April 9th.
