Madagascar Emerges as Top Buyer of Myanmar Rice, Followed by Philippines

Five- and 10-point rice of the local Aemahta and Ngasein varieties account for about 22 per cent of Myanmar’s monthly rice exports, while 25-point rice comprises roughly 34 per cent, Myanmar broken rice (A+B) represents up to 41 per cent, and parboiled rice contributes around three per cent of total shipments.

Myanmar rice is purchased in the largest quantities by Madagascar in Africa. The second-largest buyer is the Philippines, while China ranks third, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF). In addition, Poland, Spain, Turkiye, Vietnam and Italy also purchase Myanmar rice regularly.
A total of 31 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe and ASEAN import Myanmar rice. In addition to rice, broken rice is also exported, with China being one of the largest buyers of Myanmar’s broken rice.
In terms of export categories, five-point and 10-point rice belonging to the local species Aemahta and Ngasein account for approximately 22 per cent of total monthly exports, while 25-point rice makes up about 34 per cent of total exports each month. Myanmar broken rice (A+B) represents up to 41 per cent of total exports, whereas Myanmar parboiled rice accounts for around three per cent of overall exports.
