Sri Lanka Receives 500 Tonnes of Rice from Myanmar After Cyclone
The Republic of the Union of Myanmar organized a ceremony at the Asia World Port Terminal in Yangon Port, Ahlon Township, to donate 500 tonnes of rice, equivalent to 10,000 bags, to people affected by a cyclone in Sri Lanka. The event was attended by key officials, including Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Than Soe, other Yangon Region ministers, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Mrs. Prabashni Ponnamperuma, and members of the Myanmar Rice Federation.
During the ceremony, the deputy minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement delivered opening remarks, followed by a presentation from the Myanmar Rice Federation chairperson on the shipping plan and arrangements for the donation. The Sri Lankan ambassador expressed her gratitude for the support.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein formally handed over the donation documents to the ambassador, marking the official transfer of the 500 tonnes of rice. Afterwards, the chief minister and his team inspected the containers prepared for transporting the donation to Sri Lanka, ensuring readiness for delivery to the cyclone-affected communities.
