TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that three flood-affected regions in Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, have entered the top five provinces with increased rice prices. “These three are indeed regions currently affected by disasters, so the effects are starting to be seen in the price developments in the second week of December 2025,” said Deputy of Distribution and Service Statistics of BPS, Pudji Ismartini, during an inflation coordination meeting broadcast on YouTube on Monday, December 15, 2025.

Aceh, in particular, has experienced the highest increase in rice prices at 3.10 percent. BPS reported that the average price of rice in Aceh ranges around Rp14,712 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the second-highest increase occurred in West Sumatra with a surge of 1.45 percent. North Sumatra ranks fourth among regions with the highest increase in rice prices, at 0.52 percent.

BPS also reported the highest price hikes based on regencies/cities. BPS data indicate that regencies/cities in Aceh experienced the most significant increase in rice prices. Pudji stated that 12 regencies/cities in Aceh saw a rise in rice prices. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, the increase in rice prices occurred in 11 regencies/cities. The rise in rice prices occurred in ten regencies/cities in West Sumatra.

The highest increase in rice prices occurred in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh, with a surge of up to 12.28 percent. This was followed by Pariaman, West Sumatra, at 9.38 percent, and North Nias, North Sumatra, at 8.73 percent.

In addition, Pudji reported developed prices for medium and premium-quality rice in the second week of December. Pudji mentioned that the price of medium-quality rice increased by 0.03 percent compared to November 2025. The average price of medium-quality rice in the second week of December this year was recorded at Rp14,248 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, Pudji reported a downward trend in the price of premium-quality rice in the second week of December 2025. According to BPS data, the price of premium rice decreased by 0.08 percent compared to November 2025. The average price of premium rice was recorded at Rp16,016 per kilogram.

Pariaman, West Sumatra, became the region with the highest price for medium-quality rice in the second week of December. A 13.33 percent increase was recorded in the price of medium-quality rice in Pariaman, bringing it to Rp17,000 per kilogram. The price of rice in Pariaman was 21.43 percent higher than the highest retail price (HET).
