P20/Kilo rice to be sold in Talisay this week: guv

by Carla P. Gomez

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said P20 per kilo of rice will be sold in Talisay City this week through the federation of irrigators association.

In June they also sold P20 per kilo rice in Pulupandan town, Lacson pointed out on Monday, July 7.

Lacson said 500 residents in Talisay City will be able to buy a maximum of five kilos each at P20 that will be provided by the Federation of Irrigators Association of Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS).

The program specifically targets vulnerable sectors, including senior citizens, single parents, and persons with disabilities.

Pedro Limpangog, FIACN-BRIS president, said the sale of the cheap rice is tentatively scheduled for Friday.

FIACN-BRIS sells the rice and the province helps them with labor and other logistics.

The governor said the provincial government is also ready to sell P20 per kilo of rice in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and the National Food Authority.

“We’re ready for that, we just need clearance from the NFA that they have supply,” he said.*
