Govt distributes over 1,461 tonnes of rice in Khulna

The government has distributed 1,461.38 tonnes of rice among 46,138 VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) card holders in nine upazilas and two pourashavas of Khulna district ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

Each card-holder family received 10 kg of VGF rice.

Khulna District Relief and Disaster Management officials said on Monday a total of 105.37 tonnes of rice were distributed among 10,537 card holders in Dakop upazila, 130.78 tonnes among 13,078 card holders in Batiaghata upazila, 131.67 tonnes among 13,167 card holders in Dighalia upazila, and 140.36 tonnes among 14,036 card holders in Rupsha upazila.

Additionally, 118.75 tonnes of rice were distributed among 11,875 card holders in Fultala upazila, 179.51 tonnes among 17,951 card holders in Koyra upazila, 215.89 tonnes among 21,589 card holders in Paikgachha upazila, 100.67 tonnes among 10,067 card holders in Terokhada upazila, and 261.36 tonnes among 26,136 card holders in Dumuria upazila.

Besides, over 30.81 tonnes of rice were distributed among 3,081 card holders in Chalna pourashava and 46.21 tonnes among 4,621 card holders in Paikgachha pourashava.

Director (VGF) of the District Relief and Disaster Management Department Md Abdul Karim said the government distributes VGF rice ahead of both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha every year.

“Most of the VGF rice has already been distributed among the beneficiaries,” he said, adding that the remaining rice would be distributed within the next two or three days.
