MSC joins International World Rice Conference in Manila

MSC is participating in the 2024 International World Rice Conference from November 5-7 at the Conrad Hotel in Manila.

A leader in container shipping and logistics, MSC recognizes the importance of rice as a key energy source for over half the world and its vital role in food security. The company is dedicated to supporting the agricultural sector by safely transporting this essential commodity worldwide.

During the conference, a team of MSC experts, including those from key rice trading countries, such as the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, will be at Table 6 to advise shippers on the best solutions, technologies and standards to ensure rice cargo remains in perfect condition while delivering them to high-demand areas.

These rice shipping solutions include:

1. Comprehensive Trade Services Connecting Major Rice Trading Countries

Import into the Philippines: The Philippines is one of the largest rice importers globally, sourcing supplies from markets such as Vietnam, Thailand, and India. MSC’s Origami and Lang Co services offer stable weekly sailings with an extensive coverage across the Philippine market such as Manila, Batangas, Subic, and Davao.

– Export from Thailand: As a leading rice-exporting nation, Thailand’s exporters can utilize MSC’s Africa Express and Ingwe services to efficiently transport rice cargo to various African ports. The weekly Seahorse feeder ensures reliable delivery from Laem Chabang to Singapore for seamless transshipment. Additionally, the Elephant and Swan-Sentosa services provide direct connections from Laem Chabang to transpacific destinations.

Export from Vietnam: Vietnam is another key player in the rice export market. MSC’s Africa Express service links Vung Tau with numerous African ports effectively via transshipment in Singapore. Within Asia, MSC’s robust Intra-Asia network includes Origami and Lang Co services that provide convenient connections to various Philippine ports. While Origami connects directly from Vung Tau, Lang Co offers direct links from both Ho Chi Minh and Vung Tau.

2. Smart Containers for Effective Management and Tracking of Rice Cargo

Rice is sensitive to temperature and moisture, requiring expert control during transportation. In addition to its expertise, MSC Smart Containers enable the monitoring of the condition of rice by providing valuable data, including location, temperature, and humidity. With real-time notifications and alerts, shippers can take control of the process, and efficiently track and manage the rice cargo.

3. Intermodal solutions from Paddy to Table

In the Philippines, MSC provides trucking services to transport rice cargo from paddy to table. In Thailand, it utilizes barge, rail, or truck to deliver rice to major ports before shipping globally. With rice being a delicate cargo, MSC Extended Protection provides an extra layer of protection for the cargo’s partial or full value.

Delivering Excellence in Rice Transportation

MSC’s decades of experience providing logistics and transport solutions across different trade lanes, its wide network, investment in technology, and high level of equipment availability at origin allow it to offer a best-in-class and one-stop solution to rice shippers.

Customers benefit from fast and reliable transit times, value-added logistics and transport solutions (road, rail and barge) and access to a knowledgeable customer service team.
