5,750 tonnes of rice arrive from India.

Earlier, a consignment of 22,000 tonnes of Atap rice from Myanmar reached the Chattogram port.

Daily Sun Report, Dhaka

The Mongla port has received 5,750 tonnes of boiled rice from India, transported by the MV Phu Thanh 36.

This is the first shipment – among 50,000 tonnes of rice – imported through international tender by the Directorate General of Food, the Ministry of Food said in a press release on Monday.

Meanwhile, samples from the shipment underwent physical testing.

Necessary arrangements have already been made to ensure smooth unloading of rice, it said.

The government on Friday said the consignment of 22,000 tonnes of Atap rice from Myanmar reached the Chattogram port.

These shipments follow a separate agreement between Bangladesh and Pakistan to import rice.

On 14 January, the Directorate General of Food signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) in this regard.
