4,800 metric tons of rice has been imported – Seevali Arukgoda
The Customs Media Spokesperson and Additional Director of Customs, Seevali Arukgoda, said that 4,800 metric tons of rice has been imported as of yesterday (16).
The imported stock includes 3,000 metric tons of Samba rice and 1,800 metric tons of Kekulu rice.
Arukgoda also reported that a portion of the imported rice, deemed unfit for consumption, is being re-exported. Among these, three containers have been identified: two of them containing rice infested with weevils (Gullo), and the third containing 25 metric tons of expired rice.
