27,000 tons of rice to be imported from India.

Under the agreement for rice import from India, a total of 200,000 tons of rice is set to be imported into the country.

Another 27,000 tons of boiled rice are coming from India in the second shipment. The vessel carrying the rice is expected to arrive at the Chittagong port on January 10.

Mohammad Shahid Uddin Mahmud, Sub-Controller of the Chittagong Shipping and Preservation Control Office, confirmed this information.

Sources from the Chittagong Shipping and Preservation Control Office mentioned that under the agreement for rice import from India, a total of 200,000 tons of rice is set to be imported into the country.

The first shipment, carrying 24,690 tons of boiled rice, arrived at the port’s Jetty No 11 on December 26 aboard the vessel MV Tanais Dream, and the unloading process was completed.

The second shipment, carrying 27,000 tons of rice, is expected to reach the Chittagong port on January 10.

Gyanpriyo Bidurshi Chakma, the Shipping and Preservation Controller of Chittagong, said: “The vessel is being loaded with rice at the Kakinada Port in Andhra Pradesh, India.”

“The vessel is set to depart for Chittagong Port on January 6 and 7, and it typically takes three days for ships to travel from Kakinada Port to Chittagong Port,” he added.
